Tourism
Tourism is one of Michigan’s largest income industries based on the billions of travelers’ dollars spent, generation of state and local taxes, and the nearly 150,000 jobs it creates. From hunting and fishing to winery and lighthouse tours, Michigan State University Extension’s focus on year-round tourism brings together educators and researchers with municipalities, communities and businesses to develop and enhance their uniqueness as a destination “hotspot”. With more freshwater coastline than any other state in the U.S., Michigan agencies and MSU Extenison work together to help build healthy coastal economies that include working waterfronts, an abundance of recreation and tourism opportunities and coastal access.
