While production of renewable energy appears to be a noble goal, it must not come at the expense of the environment. Concentrations of greenhouse gases have risen signifcantly over the past few decades. U.S. consumers require more energy per person than in any other part of the country. As we move forward, we need to rely on sound science to carefully evaluate energy alternatives.

Conservation and sustainability will require a multi-faceted approach. Michigan State University researchers are studying various aspects of bioenergy production and processing. A concerted education and outreach campaign is needed to help consumers conserve energy.
