  • Site characteristics: Dry-moist, well-drained soils. Sun to partial shade
  • Zone: 5a - 8b
  • Wet/dry: Tolerates drought
  • Native range: Europe, near East, North Africa
  • Salt: Moderate tolerance
  • pH: 5.0 - 8.2
  • Other: Adapted to compaction, severe pruning
  • Ornamental characteristics: Excellent for residential use under utility lines. Easily transplanted in spring or fall.
  • Shape: Round
  • Cultivars: ‘Queen Elizabeth’ - more upright and vigorous, zone 6b - 7b; ‘Schichtel’s Upright’ - zone 5b - 8b.
  • Pests: Relatively pest free
