What’s New with Poo? 2015 Summer Tour

MSU Extension, in cooperation with the Clinton County Conservation District, Gratiot County Farm Bureau and other entities, is hosting a 2015 farm tour highlighting Michigan Innovations in Agriculture. This year’s theme is “What’s New with Poo?” and will feature stops at several area farms, including Nobis Dairy Farm, Weller Dairy, Vanderploeg Dairy and  Dutch Meadows.

The 2015 Michigan Innovations in Agriculture program will demonstrate new technologies for reducing the volume and nutrient concentration of the manure livestock farmers accumulate; transfer and field apply on an annual basis. This will be accomplished by using a farm tour and demonstration format. We will also demonstrate conservation practices that reduce the environmental risk associated with manure application. The purpose of this proposed field day-farm tour will be to display cutting edge manure handling technologies and conservation practices now being implemented on farms. We plan to demonstrate both the positive impacts of adopting these new technologies while at the same time discuss the potential limitations of these new management practices.
