Through coaching and technical assistance MSU Extension can help you start a Smarter Lunchroom Movement at your school.

Michigan State University Extension is available to help implement Smarter Lunchroom strategies in your school.

Smarter Lunchrooms is an initiative that helps make healthier lunchrooms through changes in the environment. Smarter Lunchrooms uses easy, no-cost and low-cost changes to encourage students to select, eat, and enjoy healthier foods in school without eliminating their choice.

MSU Extension will provide coaching and technical assistance throughout the process including:

  • Conduct a pre and post assessment using the Smarter Lunchroom Scorecard.
  • Help you choose 10 changes to make and help you make them. Changes could include introducing creative names for food items and rearranging beverages.
  • Assist you in applying for grant funding to make larger changes such as purchasing a salad bar or a refrigerator.
  • Write a success story to help you communicate the success of your Smarter Lunchrooms initiative.

If you are interested in participating in Smarter Lunchrooms, please contact MSU Extension educator Dawn Earnesty.
