We are excited to announce that Howell, MI will be the host for the 2017 CEC State-wide Conference.
Perfectly located on I-96 halfway between Lansing and Detroit, Howell is easy to get to, and the downtown area is ideal for our walkable “embedded” style of conference.
Downtown Howell is a beautiful, traditional downtown made up of two and three story buildings dating from the late 1800s. Most of them have been lovingly restored by their owners. The district is a Master Level Michigan Main Street community and is on the National Registry of Historic Places. It is home to the stunning Howell Carnegie District Library, the Richardson Romanesque Livingston County Courthouse and the historic Opera House.
But Downtown Howell is not just a historic site. It’s a vibrant community with dozens of successful retailers and restaurateurs, plus service providers like Frontal Lobe, one of the first co-working facilities in Southeast Michigan.
Many of the owners of the Victorian buildings have made significant investments in the second and third stories, creating gorgeous apartments and condominiums with features such as high ceilings, arched windows, lofts and modern amenities.
A multi-million dollar investment in the downtown is Heart of Michigan, completed during the past year. This investor took a string of dilapidated, under-used three story buildings and transformed them. Now it’s home to an assortment of retailers on the first floor and offices on the second and third stories. Plus—a unique “speakeasy-style” pub in the basement featuring upscale cocktails, wine, beer and small plates.
Downtown Howell is also very accessible to the surrounding neighborhoods of traditional homes. The grid layout makes it easy for residents to shop, dine and enjoy all the amenities Downtown Howell offers.
All in all, the businesses, services, upper story residential spaces and adjoining neighborhoods partner to create a walkable community attractive to young professionals, families and seniors.
