The following tools have proven useful for entrepreneurs looking to start a business in Michigan:

  • Business Start-up Classes. The Michigan Small Business Technology Development Center (MI-SBTDC) offers business start-up class such as "Fundamentals of Starting a Business" for those who are considering starting a new business.
  • Michigan Business One-Stop. This online service makes it easier than ever to do business in Michigan. 
  • Readiness Assessment Tool. Michigan's Small Business and Technology Development Center (MI-SBTDC) offers an interactive program that details the nuts and bolts of launching a business, while helping you define what specific assistance you may need.
  • Business Resource Center Network. One-stop locations where current and future small business owners can receive business assistance and advice. Access to the latest computer technology, hardware and software for a variety of business applications, and extensive small business reference library of hard copy books, and publications.
  • Start-Up Guide. The MI-SBTDC, in cooperation with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, publishes this downloadable guidebook that provides comprehensive information, both general and specific to Michigan including tips for writing a business plan; legal structure; licensing and permits; tax filings; financing; doing business with government; and much, much more.
  • Entrepreneur Guide. The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth produces another great resource designed to assist entrepreneurs with specific information about each of the different types of business entities that exist under Michigan law.
