Spotted wing Drosophila and IPM workshop for Hispanic/Latino blueberry growers

Hispanic/Latino blueberry growers are invited May 20 to a spotted wing Drosophila and integrated pest management training and pesticide applicator certification license test.

Michigan State University Extension, Michigan Food and Farming Systems and Very Blue Farms of Covert, Michigan, will host a special workshop for Hispanic/Latino blueberry growers on Saturday, May 20, 2017, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lakeside Entertainment Bowling Alley, 09921 Blue Star Memorial Highway, South Haven, MI 49090. This special workshop will address how to manage and control critical blueberry pests like fruitworms and spotted wing Drosophila (SWD).

It will also offer the opportunity to take the pesticide applicator certification license test for those who wish to obtain the license to purchase and apply restricted use insecticides in blueberries. Before the test, there will be a brief review of the Michigan Core Training Manual (Private Applicator Core Manual). The exam cab be taken in English or Spanish.

Four RUP credits are available to growers who want to renew their pesticide applicator certification license.

There will be a recuperation fee of $25 per person to cover lunch and materials. A separate fee of $50 per person (check or money order only, payable to the "State of Michigan") will be required for growers interested in taking the exam to obtain their pesticide applicator license.
