Southeast regional report on Michigan fruit – June 4, 2012

Apple scab spores were caught over the weekend (June 2-3). The few apple growers with an apple crop still need to be covered for this disease.

Apple scab spores were still being caught at both of our apple scab spore trapping locations due to the rain that ended Friday afternoon (June 1). This means that we are still in primary apple season and that the few apple growers with an apple crop in southeast Michigan still need to be covered for this disease. Most apple growers in the region who do not have a crop have stopped controlling apple scab as of early last week. The number of spores trapped on the collection rods has continued to decline.

I will keep apple growers informed until the end of primary apple scab season and after the next rain event at our trapping locations.
