Service opportunity for 4-H volunteers
4-H volunteers are encouraged to help in local communities during Michigan College Application Week.
Did you know that Michigan College Application Week will take place November 4-8, 2013 in our Great Lakes State? According to the Michigan College Access Network, “College Application Week is a national initiative with the goal to provide every graduating high school senior the opportunity to apply to college. Special focus is placed on assisting students who would be the first in their families to attend college and students who may not have otherwise seriously considered applying to college.”
Nearly 200 sites across the state are registered as host schools and career centers to participate this fall. The “goal is to ensure all seniors complete at least one application by the conclusion of Michigan College Application Week at host high schools.”
Volunteers add to the success of the College Application Week events and on-line orientation is provided. Michigan State University Extension has a variety of very talented volunteers in Michigan 4-H Youth Development that could put their hands to larger service. College Application Week is the perfect opportunity to assist a local school become in becoming successful in an effort to impact student’s lives.
In addition, we have a variety of resources available through the careers section of our 4-H website that could be shared with your community as a part of this upcoming event. Also be sure to make a commitment to contact your local school or schools when they start back up in September.
