Protecting and Improving Your On-Farm Investment meeting for pork producers

Production topics including herd health and biosecurity, nutrition and reproduction will be discussed at upcoming meetings in three locations of the state.

Changes in market volatility have pork producers looking for ways to get more bang for their buck and make improvements on their production numbers. In order to assist producers pork educators, Michigan State University Extension has partnered with Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Michigan Pork Producers Association to bring an educational opportunity titled Health Champions – Protecting and Improving Your On-Farm Investment to three locations in Michigan.

Helping producers recognize how to improve their production by managing the sow and pig will be the theme of this set of meetings. Industry experts will discuss reproduction management topics, review biosecurity practices, along with discussing the efficacy of different disinfections during these meetings. The role that nutrition plays with the gestating sow and tips for saving the struggling piglet will also be on the agenda. JBS United Animal Health, program sponsor, will present their product Ovugel, which can be used for the synchronization of time of insemination in weaned sows.

Meeting locations will be across the state with events taking place on Sept. 9 in Lawrence, Mich. at the Van Buren ISD and Tech Center; Sept. 10 in Jackson, Mich. at the MSU Extension office; and Sept. 15 in Mt. Pleasant at the MSU Extension office. All meetings are scheduled to start at 6 p.m. with a dinner sponsored by JBS United.
