Pass the water, please!
Don't like drinking water? Fruit infused water may change your mind.
With summer temperatures approaching, it’s important to consume as much water as possible. Ditch the soda and sugary beverages and replenish with water. What if you don’t like to drink water? Try infusing your water with nutritious fruits! There are a variety of fruits, such as berries, oranges, lemons, limes and cucumbers to name a few that you can add which naturally sweeten beverages.
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), it is important to drink water when it’s hot outside or when you’re doing physical activity. Consuming water provides your body with the following:
- Regulating normal temperature
- Lubricates and cushions joints
- Protects your spinal cord and other sensitive tissues
- Rids waste through urination, perspiration and bowel movements
Before preparing your infused water always wash your produce under cold water to remove any dirt or germs. A scrub brush for fruits and vegetables with hard skin can help clean produce under running water. Never use soap or detergent to wash produce, and cut away any damaged or bruised areas on the produce. Finally, store leftover fresh-cut items in the refrigerator for best quality and food safety measures.
An easy and colorful infused water recipe for your summer days is an “infused mixed berry drink.” Just follow the below ingredients and enjoy this delicious summer drink.
2 cups blueberries, raspberries and/or strawberries
A jug of Water
A cup of ice
1. Add berries to the pitcher.
2. Gently press fruit with a spoon to release some of the juices.
3. Add ice to the pitcher, then fill with water, stir fruit to mix.
4. Serve immediately or chill, covered, in the refrigerator.
