Options in manure management to be highlighted at the 2016 North American Manure Expo in London, OH.
“Manure: Returning Nutrients to their Roots” is a fitting theme for this year’s Manure Expo highlighting tours, equipment demonstrations and educational sessions.
The 2016 North American Manure Expo will take place on August 3 and 4 in London, Ohio. The Manure Expo provides a hands-on opportunity for livestock producers, manure applicators, nutrient management specialists, Extension educators and agency personal to see the newest technology in manure application equipment as well as attend a variety of educational sessions. The 2016 North American Manure Expo will be located at the Molly Caren Agricultural Center (the Farm Science Review site) at the corner of State Route 38 and US 40 about 25 miles west of downtown Columbus. Parking will be available off of US 40. The event is free and registration is not required unless participating in the tours and agitation demonstrations on Wednesday, August 3. The registration fee covers transportation, lunch and afternoon demonstrations. Approved continuing education units (CEUs) are available by attending the tours, demonstrations and educational sessions.
The 2016 North American Manure Expo promises to be two full days of learning and fun. This event will provide the opportunity to participate in farm tours and agitation demonstrations, educational sessions, manure equipment demonstrations and a huge trade show, all focused on manure.
Tours on Wednesday, August 3 include a choice of:
- Composting and nutrient management
- Dairy farms or
- Beef farms
Wednesday afternoon demonstrations will feature agitation chopper pumps and boats along with solid and liquid manure separations.
The educational breakout sessions on Wednesday and Thursday include:
- Small Farm Manure Management
- Cover Crops
- Water Quality Initiatives and Regulations
- Reducing Phosphorus Runoff
- Liquid and Solid Manure Handling and Application
- Manure Safety and Transport
- Anaerobic Digestion
- New Technologies
Demonstrations on Thursday will include:
- Solid manure spreaders, calibration and compost turners
- Liquid manure applications
- Smoking subsurface drainage tile
The North American Manure Expo began in August of 2001 and combines three attractions into one event; manure technology demonstrations, educational sessions and an industry trade show. The event has been hosted by Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Iowa, Nebraska, Pennsylvania and Guelph, Ontario. In 2006, Michigan State University Extension hosted the North American Manure Expo “Keep it in the Root Zone” in St. Johns, Michigan. The 15th Annual North American Manure Expo will be held on August 22 and 23, 2017 in Wisconsin.
