The Greenhouse*A*Syst document has been revised and is now available online to growers in Michigan and beyond. This 52-page document is a self-assessment tool for greenhouse growers to identify pollution risks and help make needed improvements to protect water resources. It also can improve growers’ awareness of state and federal environmental regulations.

This document has been revised based on Michigan’s new groundwater withdrawal regulations. It features a water withdrawal assessment tool and new or increased large quantity water withdrawal registration with the Michigan Department of Agriculture (MDA). In addition, the document has been revised to include:

  • Clarification of on-farm fueling station requirements.
  • New pesticide storage and container recommendations (not requirements).
  • Minor Michigan Water Stewardship Program updates.

Growers can also use this tool to become environmentally assured through the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP). Once a producer develops and implements a plan to address the risks indicated by the assessment, he or she can contact MDA to request greenhouse system verification.
