Michigan hops happenings - Summer 2013

Things are happening in the hops world in Michigan.

Things are happening in the hops world in Michigan. First, Erin Lizotte, Michigan State University Extension IPM specialist, has been providing weekly integrated pest management updates based upon her scouting outings across northwest Michigan. Her detailed weekly reports can be found on MSU Extension’s hops website under the MSU Hops News headline.

Second, in terms of outreach, we have added an Events section to the hops website that we hope will provide an up-to-date resource for all hops-related events in Michigan. Please contact Rob Sirrine at sirrine@msu.edu if you are interested in posting an event.

Hops educational programs are being planned for this summer as well. In fact, the northwest Michigan hops tour slated for August 9 is already full! If you were not able to sign up for the tour, MSU Extension educators will also be holding a southwest Michigan Hops Educational Program on August 7. We are very fortunate to be hosting Heather Darby, Associate Professor of Agronomy from University of Vermont, for both sessions. Please check the hops website for registration information.

Finally, MSU Extension educators have been working diligently on two bulletins that will be released soon: “Hops Cost of Production Bulletin” and “Bulletin of Registered Hops Pesticides for Michigan Production,” both of which will be useful for new and current Michigan hop farmers.
