Michigan Fresh now offers five fact sheets in Spanish

This information will provide Spanish-speaking residents with information on how to grow, purchase, prepare, and preserve peppers, tomatoes, onions, and apples.

Michigan Fresh is an educational campaign coordinated by Michigan State University Extension that helps people explore the state’s bounty of fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables. According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2012 estimate, Michigan’s population is five percent Hispanic or Latino, which translates to approximately 500,000 people. MSU Extension strives to reach all populations of our state including those whose primary language is not English. MSU Extension hopes this information will help Spanish-speaking residents to make healthier eating choices, which can lead to better overall health.

Dawn Rodman, Michigan Health and Wellness 4 x 4 Plan Coordinator for the Michigan Department of Community Health, agrees. “We know that one of the most important steps in helping people make healthy choices is educating them about the options that they have when it comes to healthy fruits and vegetables,” said Rodman. “By making helpful guides such as these facts sheets available in Spanish, MSU Extension is ensuring that Spanish speaking Michigan residents have the information they need in order to make healthy, informed choices that will ultimately greatly benefit their overall health and wellness.”
