It’s FAFSA time
Be prepared to submit FAFSA early this year.
There are new changes for the 2017-18 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students are now able to submit a FAFSA earlier. The 2017-18 form became available on Oct. 1, 2016. Prior to this year, the opening date was Jan. 1. The new date of Oct. 1 is a permanent change and enables students an earlier jump to apply for financial aid. Schools and states have a limited amount of aid. The sooner a student applies; this increases their chances for assistances. Check out what are the deadline for submitting your FAFSA form by going to student aids deadlines website. For example, Michigan’s deadline for submission is March 1, 2017.
To make the job of filling out the FAFSA go smoothly, it is important to have all the necessary documents. Beginning with the 2017–18 FAFSA, students are required to report income information from an earlier tax year. For example, on the 2017–18 FAFSA, students (and parents, as appropriate) must report their 2015 income information, rather than their 2016 income information.

The Department of Education’s Office of Federal Student Aid is another great resource for answers to questions about federal student aid. MI Student Aid is a wonderful resource on what programs and services are aviaible at the state level.
