“Grow It, Cook It, Eat It” class series to be offered in Kalamazoo
This series covers growing, preparing and tasting a variety of vegetables and culinary herbs.
Kalamazoo is home to the second largest farmers market in Michigan, in addition to several other farmers markets, CSAs and farm stands. Home vegetable gardens continue to be popular in urban, suburban and rural communities.
Do you know the best varieties to select for your home garden? Do you know how to tell when a vegetable is ready to harvest? How to store it? How to cook it? The Grow It, Cook It, Eat It! series has answers to these questions and more!
Michigan State University Educators Mariel Borgman and Linda Whitlock and Chef Stephanie Hughes from Kalamazoo Valley Community College’s Bronson Healthy Living Campus invite you to a series of classes in which they will lead you through growing, preparing (and tasting) a variety of delectable vegetables and culinary herbs. Participants will receive a cookbook and tip sheets to take home.
The following classes are available:
Healthful, Homegrown Herbs: August 16, 2016 6 p.m. - 8 .p.m., Cost $20
Go for the Greens: August 25, 2016 6 p.m. - 8 p.m., Cost $20
Root for the Root Vegetables: September 7, 2016 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., Cost $20
Pumpkins and Their Kin (includes tour of the Kalamazoo Farmers Market!): October 1, 2016 9 a.m. -noon, Cost $25
All classes will be held at the KVCC Culinary Theater in the Culinary and Allied Health Building at 418 East Walnut Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49001.
Master Gardeners may earn one education credit for each workshop. Scholarships may be available for SNAP-eligible participants. Register for all four classes and save $15!
