Giving thanks to Michigan 4-H volunteers

Michigan 4-H Youth Development is thankful for all of its dedicated volunteers this November.

Thanksgiving is the time of year where many people start to think about being thankful. Many may often wonder how they even got to November, as they are busy with the everyday hustle and bustle of life, going to and from work and making time to spend with family. If you have kids, you are spending time teaching them how to be responsible, upholding citizens that will one day be the leaders of tomorrow. People “go, go, go” and rarely think or reflect on how they got from point A to point B. Do you think about the lives you have touched with just a simple smile or a plain “hello?” We are constantly impacting and being impacted by everyday life and the routines we follow. We rarely think about those we have touched and those who have touched us. We say the simple “thank yous” as we have been taught to be polite, but do we really think deeply about the impact of that thank you?

As you sit back this holiday season, think back on the year and reflect on what has happened, what accomplishment you have had or impacted for others. Be thankful for family, friends and loved ones that surround you and support everything you do on a daily basis. Reflect on how you may have changed someone’s life. Have conversations with your family, friends and those you love and tell them how much you appreciate them and how thankful you are for your relationship. It is one thing to think it, but more impactful by letting them know how you feel.

At Michigan State University Extension, we rely very heavily on our corps of volunteers that help make our programs great and successful. Our 4-H volunteers are the backbone of all of the work and efforts done in 4-H. There are not enough hours in the day nor enough people to carry out the work that is done. It is a great credit to our volunteers in every county in Michigan that provide their countless time, service and dedication to 4-H programs that youth all across the state benefit from.

This year and every year, Michigan 4-H Youth Development programs are very thankful for our wonderful volunteers. Thank you for your service and commitment to positive youth development across the state of Michigan.
