Forage and cover crop field day near Harrison this October

Attendees of the Oct. 19 field day will hear about soil health, grazing of cover crop forages and water quality.

Harrison, Mich. – A field day sponsored by Michigan State University Extension, Clare Conservation District, Monsanto, and MAEAP will be held at the Jeff Stamper Farm on Oct 19. It is a MAEAP Phase One meeting.

The farm is located at 10950 Bailey Drive, Harrison, MI. Directions: From the intersection of M-61 & N. Clare Ave. in downtown Harrison, MI. head north on N. Clare Ave., for 8 miles, then turn left on Bailey Drive for 2 miles to the farm.

The program starts at 5:30 p.m., and will go until 7:30 p.m. There will be a field tour of a cover crop/forage plot planted with Austrian peas, oilseed radish, crimson clover, rape, triticale, rye, and winter barley. Attendees will also hear about soil health, grazing of cover crop forages and water quality.

The Stamper farm is a red angus cow-calf farm and is utilizing management intensive grazing. Speakers include, MSU Extension Educators, Paul Gross, Jerry Lindquist and Kable Thurlow, Jeff & Caleb Stamper and Karen Ickes of the MAEAP Program.

Come enjoy the two-hour evening program, rain or shine and learn some exciting things about cover crops and grazing. There will be food and door prizes provided.
