Fitness has many benefits

Is your fitness up to par? Explore suggestions to kick start your fitness routine for a healthier you.

Do you ever tell yourself that you really need to work out, but can’t seem to find the time in the day to do so? It often seems like our schedules are so busy that we don’t have time for much in our lives except work. Some struggle to spend as much time with their families and many find themselves working outside of the office. Where do we fit overall well-being into the mix? When was that last time you worked out, had a massage, a pedicure, been pampered, gone to stress-relief therapy? Well, it is time for you to consider incorporating those activities into your lifestyle. According to Harvard’s School of Public Health, “Regular exercise or physical activity helps many of the body’s systems function better, keeping heart disease, diabetes and a host of other diseases at bay. It is also a key ingredient for losing weight."

A simple plan to help kick start you into a healthier lifestyle is to start off with a small goal. If you are at work and have breaks, walk during your break, exercise or de-stress with yoga. If you are at home, go for a walk, join a fitness group, encourage a family fitness challenge or ride a bike. Start with these small steps and as the weeks go by, build upon your goals. Don’t feel like you have to be an Olympian the first day; ease into your routine.

If you are sweating during your activity, you are doing something right. If you aren’t, you need to build more intensity during your exercise. Stay dedicated to your plan and before you know it, you will notice a difference. As you progress, continue to incorporate different exercises of different intensity levels to help you stay fit. Remember to stay focused and know that you did not put the weight on overnight, and the same is true that it won’t come off overnight. Stay committed and you will reap the benefits of a new healthier you.
