First generation codling moth emergence begins

Prepare to set a biofix for predicting egglaying and larval emergence.

Codling moth is a direct pest of pome fruit crops. First sustained adult emergence is used to set a biofix, which allows degree days (base 50) to be used to predict egglaying and larval emergence. The numbers of moths caught on May 22, if sustained, will likely be considered biofix for the Trevor Nichols Research Complex and Fennville area. Upcoming articles will provide recommendations on management options for codling moth.
