Final call for 2017 Integrated Crop and Pest Management Update

The 2017 Integrated Crop and Pest Management Update on Dec. 20 will highlight new threats, MAEAP verification program and year-end certification credits.

Michigan State University Extension and Eaton County MSU Extension will host the 2017 Integrated Crop and Pest Management Update on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the MSU Pavilion for Agriculture and Livestock Education (4301 Farm Lane,  Lansing, MI 48910.  

MSU Extension specialists and educators will address critical issues facing the field crops industry in relationship to Michigan’s economic, agronomic and environmental constraints.  Emerging weeds, insects and diseases that pose huge challenges to Michigan field crops will be highlighted and new strategies to deal with them will be discussed.

Key production aspects including crop nutrient management, cultural practices and the 2017 drought will be reviewed. The results of the 2017 on-farm soybean trials will be summarized. Local commodity check-off boards will be presenting corn, soybean and wheat industry updates for 2018.

Also, participants will have an opportunity to meet with their regional Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP) representatives to discuss the current Farmstead Cropping or Livestock verification programs.  This comprehensive, voluntary and proactive program is designed to reduce farmers’ legal and environmental risks through an on-farm verification procedure to ensure the farmer has implemented environmentally sound practices.

Participants will receive six MDARD credits (Com. Core, Priv. Core, 1A), 6.5 CCA credits (2NM, 3.5PM, 1.5CM) and MAEAP phase 1 credits for this session. Bring your mobile phones to provide polling input to the program evaluation.
