Field crop insect update for June 21, 2012

Aphid levels are low, early emerging western bean cutworm moths were captured this week and armyworms continue to be a problem in some areas.

We found aphids in soybeans at all locations we’ve visited, but at very low levels.

Armyworms continue to be a problem in some areas, but the spray window for wheat has closed. Plants are drying down, and we are within the preharvest interval of most insecticides. There may be some second generation armyworm in corn later this month.
