Commodity market update webcast

Current commodity market updates for grain and dairy available for viewing online.

Keeping current on the ever changing commodity markets can be a full-time job for most farm producers. A web-based recording of a recent Commodity Market Update presentation from Michigan State University Extension covering corn, wheat and soybean crops is now available.

Recent USDA commodity balance sheet changes and adjustments to the projected ending inventories have caused reactions in the futures markets. Most of the forecasts and futures markets are set up for a major downturn in the cash market prices that are being offered for the 2013 crop production year. If these lower grain commodity prices hold, we will see some financial stress on crop producers who have enjoyed several years of outstanding grain markets. Higher commodity prices allowed input costs to rise along with land rents, which in some cases may now be too high. We are early in the year, so production is not yet something that can be projected.

An online recording of the Dairy Market Update by MSU Extension’s dairy business management and milk marketing educator, Craig Thomas. The Dairy Market Update provides a complete analysis and outlook for the U.S. dairy industry.
