When hitching a wagon or other implement, a farmer may have to repeatedly climb on and off their tractor, which can be a hassle. For someone with leg or mobility impairments, this is downright painful, or even impossible. There are several types of specialized hitches that will eliminate the need to climb up and down tractor steps to hitch equipment. This can also save valuable time when repeated hitching and un-hitching is necessary.
Many different manufacturers make hitches that allow you to stay on the tractor or in the cab to connect to implements. Simple versions for wagons allow you to back up to the wagon tongue and a funnel guides it in to place. A spring loaded hitch pin or clevis then automatically connects the wagon to the tractor drawbar. The attached rope is then pulled when you are done with the wagon to unhitch.
Another version uses a 3 point hitch system, with a similar rope system to release the pin. More elaborate systems will hook up a PTO shaft automatically, resulting in reduced dangers of pinches and entanglements.
