Additions to the spotted wing Drosophila report for July 2, 2013

More spotted wing Drosophila were detected in southwest Michigan, and we wanted to inform growers of these catches.

Two more flies were trapped in southwest Michigan earlier this week, and these flies were not included in Michigan State University Extension’s spotted wing Drosophila report for July 2, 2013. We wanted to put out this additional trap count to be sure that growers are getting the most up-to-date information on this invasive insect pest.

A male and female spotted wing Drosophila were trapped on the edge of a blueberry field in Berrien County. Another male and female fly were found in a tree line next to grapes also in Berrien County. These flies will be added to the statewide totals in next week’s report. Additionally, we found two females next to a blueberry field in Ottawa County on June 19. These flies will also be added to the statewide totals in next week’s report.
