4-H offers summer camps with a healthy living focus

Michigan 4-H offers summer camp experiences that allow youth to explore the area of healthy living.

Summer is a busy time and lots of parents are looking for things to get their children involved with.  Michigan State University Extension has some great summer camp experiences that will also allow youth to explore the area of healthy living.

4-H Exploration Days is a fun, pre-college program that brings youth from around the state to explore the campus of MSU. This camp is open to youth 11 to 19 and runs June 22-24, 2016. The cost is $165 for 4-H members and $175 for non-members. Many local 4-H programs have scholarships to help cover the cost. Youth have the opportunity to pick between over 200 educational sessions. Registration fills up fast and the deadline for registering is Monday, May 2.

There are many sessions that focus on food, nutrition and fitness. Some of these session options include: Healthy Drinks and Snacks, Healthy Snacking, MSU Bakery Days, Relax and Stretch with Yoga, Safety and Self-Defense, Safety Kits 4 Safe Kids, Safety-Feature Scavenger Hunt and Vegetarian Cooking, Cooking Matters, Day at the Spa, and Social Butterflies Unite.

4-H Health and Food Science Camp is another camp being offered for the first time this summer focusing on three areas of health: nutrition, physical fitness and personal safety. The camp will take place at MSU Aug. 2-4, 2016. Youth will be able to stay in the dorms and explore different facilities and departments on campus that focus on physical fitness, nutrition and personal safety. The cost of this camp is $165 for 4-H members and $175 for non-members. The deadline to apply for the 4-H Health and Food Science Camp is Friday, May 31.
