7th annual 4-H Day at the Breslin celebrates youth development and Spartan Women’s Basketball
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State
University Extension (MSUE) 4-H Youth
Development will cheer on the MSU women’s
basketball team as they take on Ohio State
during their Jan. 15 home game at the MSU
Breslin Center. “MSUE 4-H Day at the Breslin” is a celebration of the MSUE
4-H program in Michigan.
Tickets are free for 4-H members and their families, volunteers and MSUE staff
members and their families. Those interested in attending the game should
contact their county MSU Extension office no
later than Jan. 8, 2012.
This year, displays in the concourse will showcase 4-H’s Revolution of Responsibility.
At a time when so many communities are struggling with shrinking resources in
the face of expanding needs, 4-H
members are stepping forward to take on responsibility for meeting local
challenges head on.
“Youth who participate in 4-H learn from the start – as young as five years old
– that it’s important to give back and get involved in their communities,” said
the director of 4-H programming in Michigan, Julie
Chapin, Ph.D. “4-H is unique in its ability to use research-based
methodology through our connection to MSU to prepare kids to be responsible in
many areas of their lives. It’s just a natural extension for them to find
things in their communities that are falling through the cracks – and then not
be afraid to shoulder
responsibility for taking them on.”
4-H’ers will lead the 4-H pledge,
and there will be an opportunity to get photos with Sparty, the MSU cheerleaders and possibly the Women
Spartans. Show off your
4-H/MSU Extension pride for the crowd
and the ESPN2 television
audience by wearing green or white 4-H or MSU Extension apparel.
The game will start at 4 p.m. with doors opening for the MSU Extension 4-H
group at 2:00 p.m. and for the public at 2:30 p.m. MSU Extension and 4-H
attendees should enter the Breslin Center at Gate D. Transportation may be
coordinated through your county
MSU Extension office.
Parking is free for all school buses; all other buses are $20. Car parking
costs $5.
4-H staffers at the event will provide information on the youth development
program and will tell you how to get involved.
