Children and Youth

Many people hear the word “Extension” and think “agriculture.” While agricultural education is an important part of Extension, providing educational programming that supports the needs of children and youth is a large part of Michigan State University Extension’s mission.
Gives youth and adults opportunities to EXPERIENCE the benefits of working together to reach common goals.
Through Children and Youth programs parents and providers are learning how to provide the best possible childcare.
Youth participate in hands-on learning activities that:
- Enhance self-esteem.
- Build leadership skill.
- Create active citizens.
- Encourage career exploration.
- Develop entrepreneurial abilities.
- Teach practical skills in hundreds of areas.
- Helps young people EXPLORE their interests through fun, engaging, hands-on learning experiences led by committed adults in their local communities.
- Helps young people ACHIEVE through knowledge, success and friendships that last a lifetime!
- Connect with positive adult mentors and make new friends in safe learning environments.
- Take the lead in what they do and how they develop.
- Set the pace of their learning.
- Recognize, understand and appreciate diversity.
- Become active citizens through their service and leadership.
