Veronica Bolhuis is a Michigan State University Extension 4-H program coordinator in Kalamazoo County. She has served in this role since 2011.

In her role as 4-H program coordinator, Veronica provides leadership and management of local 4-H programs, volunteers, and youth participants in Kalamazoo County. She promotes and strengthens the Kalamazoo County 4-H program by developing programs and partnerships, promoting, and evaluating 4-H programs, as well as recruiting and training volunteers. Veronica is also the liaison from the state Michigan 4-H office helps to ensure that statewide opportunities and information is available to local participants.

Veronica started as a 4-H parent and volunteer in 2008.  She has helped her children to engage in a variety of animal projects including market and breed poultry, rabbits, small mammals, feeder calf, beef and beekeeping. They were also involved in many still projects including member record books, photography, art, baking and international research. She and her children have also been involved in the 4-H interstate exchange program traveling and making friends in Colorado, Massachusetts, and Missouri.

Veronica is a member of the MSU Extension International program team, Environmental Outdoor Education team, KRESA Ag Science and Vet Science Advisory Co-Chair KRESA FinLit team, and NAE4-HYD Urban work team. She is a certified instructor for Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) . She previously was both Chair and Vice Chair of the Southwest Region – MAE4-HYS. 

Veronica had received many acknowledgements, nominations and awards in her career including:

  • 2022 Recipient of the Teamwork award from the Michigan Association of Extension Youth Staff (MAE4-HYS)North/Central region National Association of Extension 4-H Youth Development Staff (NAE4-HYDP)
  • MAE4-HYS Excellence in programming award.
  • 2023 Michigan 4-H Military Partnership Innovating for Success Award
  • 2023 Regional 4-H Military Partnership Innovating for Success Award
  • 2023 National 4-H Military Partnership Innovating for Success Award

Before joining MSU Extension in 2011, Veronica was a daycare director for 6 years.  She attended Muskegon Community College, Kellogg Community College and Western Michigan University. Her degree is in Early Childhood Education.
