Laurie Rivetto is an educator with Michigan State University Extension based in Wayne County (Detroit, Michigan). She has worked with Extension since 2006. Laurie specializes in 4-H youth development in the areas of youth money management and incorporates career exploration and workforce readiness skill development. Her work focuses on volunteer and curriculum development around these topic areas as well as direct programming with youth in a creative, engaging, and fun manner.
 
She supports positive youth development across the organization focusing on youth safety and youth voice through past leadership on the precollege program, 4-H Exploration Days. She has coordinated a few grants, including providing leadership for an “adulting” 4-H virtual club that allows skill and relationship building through an online program. Laurie enjoys using unique approaches to youth programming and supports the use of the scavenger hunt app, GooseChase, as a state-wide platform.
 
As part of her role, she has created curriculum such as 4-H Build your Future and the 4-H Youth Business Guide to Success. To support financial policies for 4-H volunteers, she developed the 4-H Financial Manuals for Staff, Volunteers and Treasurers and trainings for staff and youth treasurers. With a youth safety and belonging focus, Laurie was involved in the creation of the MSU Extension Guide for Inclusion of Individuals of all Gender Identities, Gender Expressions, Sexual Orientations and Sexes as well as resources related to virtual youth programming.
 
Laurie has led sessions at conferences such as the Michigan Pre-College and Outreach Conference, the National Afterschool Association, the National Urban Extension Conference, the North Central Urban Extension Conference, and the Council for Economic Education Financial Literacy and Economic Education Conference.
 
Laurie is an Ohio Northern University graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Middle Childhood Education and a Michigan State University alumnus with a Master’s Degree in Youth Development.
