Bio:

I provide chronic disease prevention and management education, primarily focused on type 2 diabetes, utilizing evidence-based curricula: the Stanford Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP), CDSMP for Diabetes and CDSMP for Chronic Pain. I also facilitate Dining with Diabetes, a nutrition-focused curriculum developed by West Virginia Extension and serve as a lifestyle coach for the National Diabetes Prevention Program, endorsed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Half of my time is spent in this programming, and in work related to chronic disease prevention and management.

The other half of my time is focused on Extension Health Research, in partnership with the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. In that role I am responsible for connecting the college’s researchers with communities, helping to recruit community members for research projects and assisting in the dissemination of research outcomes back to the community from which it came and beyond.  Through this role I also help prepare other Extension staff for involvement in research. As part of a team I helped to develop a training called “Are You Research Ready?”
