Michigan State University will host the 26th annual Viticulture Field Day at the Southwest Michigan Research and Extension Center (SWMREC) on Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Grape growers and vineyard employees both new and experienced, winemakers, agribusiness professionals, and anyone else with an interest in viticulture, are invited to attend. Register early for this full day of viticulture education and time to chat with your grape-growing neighbors. The event will include an outdoor trade show, equipment demonstrations, and bus tours of the research farm.
The bus tours will include workshops by Michigan State University experts and others on matters related to grape production in our region. Discussion and demonstration subjects during workshops include: variety selection, canopy management, weed control, fungicide resistance, and many others. After the last two cold winters, workshops will have a focus on replanting decisions and protection from winter injury. Bring ideas to share. The educational program will be followed by a showcase of wine from the local American Viticultural Area, the Lake Michigan Shore. All attendees are invited to stay for the wine showcase and steak cookout afterwards. Note that IDs will be checked for entrance into the wine showcase.
Normal registration is $45 per person, and early bird registration (postmarked before July 17) is $35 per person. Registration includes lunch, wine at the showcase, and steak cookout.
Four Restricted Use Pesticide credits have been requested for this meeting.
To register, print and mail the registration form with payment. For those without access to a printer, call Diane Miner, (269)944-1477 ext. 201 and she will mail you a registration form.
