UTMC is an Extension program offered across Michigan to communities interested in tourism development. The two-to-three hour program is directed at communities and individuals seeking to better understand tourism opportunities and how niche markets can help transform, grow, and sustain assets in their own communities. Participants are led through a workshop focused on statistics and figures representing the magnitude of the industry, tourist behavior and needs, as well as current trends. The latter half of the program allows attendees to explore five niche areas of sustainable tourism that can be leveraged at a community level. Attendees explore their own assets and possibilities for leveraging them.
