Program Description: Thinking of running for public office? Come learn more about preparing to be a candidate and serving as a public official.
The number of people considering running for public office in 2018 appears to be at an all-time high. Time Magazine recently reported that women and scientists, in particular, are running for office in record numbers. The City of Lansing, in 2017, had more candidates running for city council than at any other time in modern history.
Many who have searched for ways to make a difference are deciding that 2018 is the time to bring their passions, values, and ideas to public service. If you’re one of those people or think you might be, this workshop will help you consider how ready you are to run for office, answer questions you need to answer before committing to a busy campaign and an even busier life as a public servant and get you started on your road to Election Day 2018.
Participants in this workshop will:
- Learn how and where to file to run for office
- Learn about seats available in the 2018 election
- Analyze their personal level of preparation for a campaign effort
- Hear about what life is like as a public servant
- Discover how to get a campaign going and get on the road to Election Day 2018
