Grain Market Update
Dr. James Hilker is a Professor of Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics at Michigan State University. He earned his Ph.D. from Purdue University and has been on staff at MSU since 1982. His research and extension interests include using pricing alternatives as risk management tools, educational programs in marketing, probability price forecasts, farm level pricing and sales management, and price outlook Dr. Hilker will address issues with marketing grain commodities in Michigan this season. He will describe the recent historical trends in pricing and the predictions for price movements this year based on predicted and actual acres planted for the main field crops, among other factors. He will also answer questions from growers related to marketing strategies and timing of grain sales this season.
This series of breakfast meetings will focus on various aspects of field crop production in Southwest Michigan. The meetings will be held at the Royal Cafe in Centreville, MI at 7 a.m. every Tuesday morning from April 19 through June 28, 2016. Meetings will include updates on integrated pest management (IPM) and other issues from the local MSU Extension field crops team followed by a presentation on a topic important to field crop production.
