St. Joseph County IPM Breakfast Series
Field Crop Weed Issues
Christy Sprague is a Professor of Weed Science at Michigan State University. She earned her Ph.D. from MSU and has been on staff there since 2003. Sprague’s research and extension program focuses on integrated weed management, biology, ecology, and management of emerging problematic weeds, and understanding the interactions with weeds and other pests and pest/crop management practices. Her program emphasizes weed management in soybeans, sugar beets, dry beans, and potatoes.
Sprague will address weed control issues this spring. Topics will include early weed problems, carryover concerns, resistant weeds reported, and recommendations based on research from 2015. Participants at the breakfast will discuss early-season weed management and crop injury issues. They will also learn about different postemergence weed control options available for the remainder of the season.
This series of breakfast meetings will focus on various aspects of field crop production in Southwest Michigan. The meetings will be held at the Royal Cafe in Centreville, MI at 7 a.m. every Tuesday morning from April 19 through June 28, 2016. Meetings will include updates on integrated pest management (IPM) and other issues from the local MSU Extension field crops team followed by a presentation on a topic important to field crop production. Participants can order their own breakfasts and eat during the meeting. Open to the public, no pre-registration is necessary. Contact Eric Anderson (firstname.lastname@example.org or 269-467-5511) at the MSU Extension office in Centreville with questions.
This breakfast meeting is being sponsored by Dale Hiatt with Crop Production Services - Mendon, MI. The overall IPM breakfast series is supported by a donation from the Monsanto Company.
