Field Crops Insect Issues
Chris DiFonzo is a Professor of Entomology at Michigan State University. She specializes in insect pests of field crops. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and has been on staff at MSU since 1996. She is also an adjunct faculty member at the University of Guelph, Ontario.
DiFonzo will address reports of early insect pest pressure and give recommendations for control. She will discuss efficacy of different seed treatments in controlling different insect pests and give alternative insecticide control options and with recommended best management practices for in field crops. She will also discuss crop rotation, scouting, use of traits, variety/hybrid selection and other IPM strategies and their efficacy in controlling yield loss due to insects.
This series of breakfast meetings will focus on various aspects of field crop production in Southwest Michigan. The meetings will be held at the Royal Cafe in Centreville, MI at 7 a.m. every Tuesday morning from April 19 through June 28, 2016. Meetings will include updates on integrated pest management (IPM) and other issues from the local MSU Extension field crops team followed by a presentation on a topic important to field crop production. Participants can order their own breakfasts and eat during the meeting. Open to the public, no pre-registration is necessary.
