St. Joseph County IPM Breakfast Series
Field Crop Disease Issues
Marty Chilvers is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Plant, Soil and Microbial Sciences at Michigan State University. He specializes in fungal biology, epidemiology, fungal genetics, host-pathogen interactions, and diseases of field and vegetable crops. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Tasmania and has been on staff with MSU since 2009.
Chilvers will address some early-season diseases that have been problematic this year and how to address ongoing problems depending on how the season has progressed to date. He will discuss foliar diseases in the main field crops and the best management practices for controlling them based on recent University research. He will cover recent findings of Goss’s wilt and Tar spot and talk about fungicides for management of Northern Leaf Blight and Grey Leaf Spot.
This series of breakfast meetings will focus on various aspects of field crop production in Southwest Michigan. The meetings will be held at the Royal Cafe in Centreville, MI at 7 a.m. every Tuesday morning from April 19 through June 28, 2016. Meetings will include updates on integrated pest management (IPM) and other issues from the local MSU Extension field crops team followed by a presentation on a topic important to field crop production. Participants can order their own breakfasts and eat during the meeting. Open to the public, no pre-registration is necessary. Contact Eric Anderson (email@example.com or 269-467-5511) at the MSU Extension office in Centreville with questions.
This breakfast meeting is being sponsored by Mike Schrock with Advanced Farm Supply, Inc. in Burr Oak, MI. The overall IPM breakfast series is supported by a donation from the Monsanto Company.
