''St. Joseph County IPM Breakfast Series
Weather Outlook for the 2016 Season

Dr. Jeff Andresen is a Professor in Geography at Michigan State University.  He specializes in agricultural meteorology and applied climatology.  He earned his Ph.D. from Purdue University and has been on staff at MSU since 1991.

Dr. Andresen will explain the current El Nino event, the record-setting warm weather this past winter, and how these will affect crop production this growing season based on the most recent climate models.  He will speculate on what the temperature and precipitation will be like in Michigan this spring and summer based on historical trends of El Nino events and the current study of the El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO).  He will explain how crop production may be affected if the current models accurately predict the overall weather picture during the 2016 growing season.

This series of breakfast meetings will focus on various aspects of field crop production in Southwest Michigan.  The meetings will be held at the Royal Cafe in Centreville, MI at 7:00 AM every Tuesday morning from April 19 through June 28, 2016.  Meetings will include updates on integrated pest management (IPM) and other issues from the local MSU Extension field crops team followed by a presentation on a topic important to field crop production.  Participants can order their own breakfasts and eat during the meeting.  No pre-registration is necessary.  Continuing Education Units (CEU) for Certified Crop Advisers and Restricted Use Pesticide (RUP) credits available.  Contact Eric Anderson (eander32@msu.edu or 269-467-5511) with questions.
