Many fall red raspberry and blueberry farms in east Michigan have had very high trap catch of spotted wing Drosophila. This new invasive pest has the potential of causing small white larva or worms in fruit at harvest time. In fact, a few farms have had to stop harvest due to finding wormy berries.

In response to these events, MSUE has put together two quick grower meetings scheduled for August 30 with the goal of helping educate growers to trap, identify and control this pest. Dr. Rufus Isaacs, Small Fruit Entomologist at MSU will be sharing his knowledge of this pest and his ‘hot off the press’ research findings as to the best materials to gain control of this pest.
