The 2017 Southwest Michigan Local Food Summit is designed to bring community members, growers, businesses, and non-profits in the region together to collaborate, network, and learn about the impacts of local food on our community. Be Healthy Berrien received funding from the Michigan Local Food Council network to develop a food council in our community. Over the past several months, a Planning Committee has worked to establish a foundation for the Southwest Michigan Local Food Council. Now we’re happy to invite you to join this event to help inform the goals and actions of the Southwest Michigan Local Food Council! There will also be an opportunity to volunteer to join the effort!
We envision a local food system that is continually improving to address issues of both food equity and quality of life in Southwest Michigan. Please join us to continue to build upon the work that began at the 2016 Southwest Michigan Local Food Summit.
Some 2016 Accomplishments:
- Creation of the From Our Fields to Our Tables local food assessment
- Received a Seed Grant from the Michigan Local Food Council Network
