A training program on sidewalk design function maintenance and liability. Walkable communities are an important part of placemaking. That means having sidewalks, trails, bike routes and more. This program will focus on this part of placemaking:

•A. General theory of walkability
•B. Sidewalk and street design
•C. Legal liability and maintenance
•D. Planning best practice (CIP)
•E. Walkability assessment and audit

Instructors are Glenn Pape, CNU-A, MSU Extension educator, Land Use; Kurt H. Schindler, AICP, MSU Extension Senior educator, Land Use; and Peter B. Worden, Jr., Esq., and attorney with Garan Lucow Miller, P.C., Traverse City, who specializes in sidewalk liability issues for municipalities.
