Relationship Building for Better Partnerships: Native American Communities & MSU Extension is a 3-part professional development series that will provide a unique opportunity for MSU Extension staff and several of Michigan’s Anishinaabe Tribes, Urban Native American Community Organizations and community members to learn from each other, build working relationships, and plan some collaborative projects together. This series will engage MSU Extension staff with members of the Native American community of Southeastern Michigan and staff or partners of the American Indian Health and Family Services agency. Each session will encourage communication and engagement and help foster reciprocal learning between MSUE and the tribal/urban communities creating an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect. Participants will have the opportunity to share in both MSUE culture and tribal/urban Native culture to explore ways of creating effective partnerships. In addition, support for continuing those partnerships will be available to participants who attend all three sessions in the form of Multicultural Action Mini-grants, valued up to $1,000.00. The purpose of the competitive mini-grants are to enhance partnerships between MSUE and the tribal/urban communities to build, strengthen, and support the work started during the series.
This series is open to ALL MSU Extension staff regardless of location and American Indian Health and Family Services staff and community partners. However, MSU Extension staff located in nearby districts adjacent to the tribal communities or the American Indian Health and Family Services agency may be especially interested in this opportunity. Plan on attending any and all of the series as your time allows!
