PRI Mentoring Lunch & Forum

Session 1 is from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. The topic is Targeted Mentor Recruitment: Recruiting mentors can be intimidating and time consuming. Participants in this session will learn new recruitment techniques and how to focus your message to engage a specific audience. Targeted recruitment will help you find the volunteers who are likely to succeed in your program and stay for years to come. This session will provide opportunities to practice presentations and receive feedback from peers. Participants are welcome to bring current recruitment tools to share with the group.

12-1 p.m.   Mentoring lunch/networking

Session 2 will be from 1-4 p.m. The topic will be Mentor Retention: Mentoring research points to the importance of solid policies and procedures related to matching, supporting and monitoring of matches.  In this interactive session, participants will learn strategies for making and monitoring matches and examine ways to support matches. Later in the session we will explore generational differences. Learn some traits that are common to each generation and discuss how generational differences can impact mentoring relationships.

The presenter will be Lisa Bottomley, Senior Mentoring Specialist with MSU Extension. Lisa is joined by Extension Educators Frank Cox and Scott Lakin. Frank and Scott have worked with mentoring programs throughout Michigan and have been invited presenters at national conferences.

Lunch and snacks will be provided. An email will be sent to participants one week prior to the session confirming attendance and providing any additional instructions. Casual dress is appropriate.
