The annual Pork Quality Assurance Plus (PQA+) training and mandatory Kent County Youth Fair Swine Exhibitor meeting will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the Lowell Middle School, 750 Foreman St, Lowell. The PQA+ training will begin at 9:30 a.m. and be finished by 10:50 a.m. The mandatory swine exhibitor meeting will start promptly at 11 a.m. Each youth attending the training or the mandatory meeting will be asked to pay $1 (one dollar). This helps offset the rental of the building. The mandatory meeting for swine exhibitors is required if you are going to show swine. If you have concerns or questions regarding the mandatory meeting please call Ted Mager at (616) 862-0147. PQA+ training is offered to youth raising market swine for shows and auctions in Michigan. A current PQA+ certification is required to sell a pig at most youth fair livestock sales. The PQA+ educational program helps youth develop good animal care and marketing skills. Youth have the option of attending a face-to-face PQA+ training or completing the PQA+ training and certification on-line. Directions on how to do the online training can be found at http://www.pork.org/youth-pqa-plus/ The PQA+ training is open to all youth.
