PATH (Personal Action Toward Health) for Chronic Pain

PATH for Chronic Pain is a self-management workshop designed for people living with chronic pain. Participants learn important skills such as goal-setting, dealing with pain and fatigue, and communicating effectively with family, friends and health care professionals. Additional subjects covered include:

  1. techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, isolation, and poor sleep
  2. appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance
  3. appropriate use of medications
  4. nutrition
  5. pacing activity and rest
  6. how to evaluate new treatments

Participants practice the “Moving Easy” exercise program during workshop sessions. The workshop meets once a week for six consecutive weeks. It is sponsored by MSU Extension, Region VII Area Agency on Aging and the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan and there is no cost to participants.
