Ontonagon Forage Field Day

Thursday, July 23, 4-7 p.m. eastern time. 3-hour informal educational field day/pasturewalk including two Ontonagon area farms. This will be an outdoor event and involve some walking, so dress appropriately. Visits will include the Jim Countryman beef farm in Green, MI (outside Ontonagon) and the Frank Wardynski farm in Ontonagon. Forage topics at the Countryman farm will include tillage and other practices involved in successfully establishing/re-establishing hay and pasture fields. The Wardynski farm visit will focus on incorporating no-till planting practices in a multi-year process of establishing hay and pasture fields, utilizing annual forage crops during the process. Dr. Kim Cassida, MSU State Forage Specialist, has been invited to present on successful and economical establishment of new hay/pasture fields.
