The Michigan State University Extension Nutrient Management Update and Plot Tour will be at the MSU Plant Pathology Research Farm, 3735 North College Road, Lansing, MI 48910, on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, from 2-4 p.m. Participants will receive two CCA credits and two MDARD credits for this afternoon session. There is no registration fee, but participants should email George Silva at email@example.com or call 517-543-4467 to register in advance.
MSU soil fertility and nutrient management professor Kurt Steinke will highlight the MSU nutrient management applied research program. The scope and complexity of this research is designed to address vital issues confronting the Michigan field crops industry such as soil health, nutrient management and environmental stewardship. It is an opportunity to engage in open discussions on such topics as fertilizer practices, nitrification inhibitors, 4R stewardship practices, cover crops and drought management. We will review proactive and voluntary practices to avoid potential environmental risk. Discussions will help identify misinformation regarding the role of farming practices on environmental issues.
This program is intended for farmers, crop consultants, educators, fertilizer retail industry, federal and state officials and Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program professionals. This event will foster closer interaction and cooperation between MSU researchers, government agencies, farmers and the fertilizer service providers.
People interested in securing additional MDARD and CCA credits on the same day are encouraged to participate in the Eaton/Ingham County Spoil Your Soil: Fall Conservation Update in the morning at the Mason Technology Center in Mason, Michigan. View the agenda for more information on morning and afternoon sessions of both events, as well as credits.
